Former Eastern Illinois defensive back
Russell Dandy has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

Dandy led the FCS in passes defended last season with 19 setting the school single season record for pass break-ups. He earned Walter Camp All-America honors and was a first team All-Big South/OVC Football Association selection.

In three seasons playing for EIU, Dandy made 74 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss. He had three interceptions and 24 passes defended.

Winnipeg is preparing for the second of three preseason games on Friday, May 31. The 2024 regular season opens for the Blue Bombers on Thursday, June 6 hosting Montreal.

Dandy joins former EIU All-American wide receiver Alexander Hollins as Panthers currently active in the Canadian Football League. Hollins is set to begin his third season with the BC Lions.
