Former Eastern Illinois athlete Lauren Doyle had already become the Panther with the most Olympic appearances when she was named captain of Team USA to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics, her third playing on the Women's Rugby Sevens.

On Tuesday (July 30), she became the second former Panther to win an Olympic Medal as she earned bronze as a member of Team USA.  Team USA beat Australia, 14-12, to earn the final spot on the Olympic podium.

Doyle first appeared in the Olympics at the 2016 Rio de Janiero games and followed that up with an appearance at the 2020 Tokyo games held in 2021 due to COVID-19.

Now she joins an elite group of athletes with an Olympic medal joining former Panther Dan Steele (bronze at 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games) to earn a medal.
