Panthers Fall to Detroit Mercy 5-1

Titans score three quick goals in the first half

The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team fell short 5-1 on Monday Night versus University of Detroit Mercy. This moves the Panthers record to 1-1-0 for their 2024 campaign. 

A stagnant first half was interrupted by a Detroit Mercy goal that came in 25' minute. The Titans quickly followed with two more goals of their own to push the lead to 3-0 before Casey Welage assisted Jackson Liley for EIU's first goal of the match. This moved the deficit to 3-1 going into the half. 

Detroit Mercy was able to find more success coming out of the break as they logged two more goals to extend the lead to 5-1. 

The Panthers played one of their more physical matches as they finished the match with a total of five yellow cards and 12 fouls. 

Quinn Tews held up the back end for the Titans, only allowing one goal on the evening. The Detroit Mercy defense held Eastern Illinois to just two shots on goal.
