The Eastern Illinois Men's Soccer team tied the Wright State Raiders 2-2 on Tuesday night, at Alumni Field, in Dayton Ohio. The Panthers move to 1-3-1 on the season as they pick up their first draw of the 2024 season.
EIU was out to a hot start after a foul on Wright State's Pete Schneider resulted in a free kick for Sam Eccles just a minute and a half into the contest. The Panthers were able to capitalize as Eccles picked up his first goal of the year.
Eastern Illinois was able to keep the Raiders out of the net in the first half, as Chad Smith recorded four saves on 12 shots when the buzzer sounded.
The Panthers capitalized again early in the second half as Jared Cornejo was able to log his first goal of the season off an assist from Sam Eccles. Eccles finished the game with one goal and one assist, tying his total number of assists from a season ago.
Wright State showed resilience as they were able to pick two late goals in the final 15 minutes to tie the game. The Raiders finished the night with a total of 30 shots as they move to 3-3-1 on the year.
