Eastern Illinois football was once again among the teams also receiving votes in this weeks STATS Perform Media Top 25 poll.
 
The Panthers dropped their season opener on Thursday night at Big Ten member Illinois.  The loss dropped EIU from the third team also receiving votes in the preseason poll to the seventh team also receiving votes after week one.
 
EIU hosts Indiana State this week for the Panthers home opener on Saturday night with a 6 p.m. start.
 
EIU was one of three Big South OVC Football schools listed among those receiving votes joined by UT Martin and Southeast Missouri.
 
Defending national champion South Dakota State was ranked first followed by North Dakota State, Montana State, Montana and Villanova in the top five.
 
South Dakota, Idaho, Sacramento State, Central Arkansas and Southern Illinois filled spots sixth through ten in the poll. 
 
Chattanooga was 11th followed by Incarnate Word, William & Mary, Richmond, Furman, UAlbany, Western Carolina, UC Davis, Lafayette and Tarleton State in the top 20.
 
The final five schools ranked in the poll were Illinois State at No. 21 with Nicholls, North Dakota, Weber State and Youngstown State rounding out the Top 25.
 
The AFCA Coaches Top 25 FCS poll will be released on Tuesday.  EIU was the third team also receiving votes in that preseason poll after being ranked No. 24 in last year's final FCS Coaches poll.
