Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Arkansas State At WKU Tournament

Panthers finish the weekend with a record of 1-2

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team (4-6, 0-0 OVC) fell 3-0 to Arkansas State (10-2, 0-0 ASun) on Saturday morning during day two of the Alyssa Cavanaugh WKU Tournament. The Panthers conclude the tournament with a record of 1-2.

Eastern Illinois dropped set one 25-17 as the contest began with momentum in favor of Arkansas State. The Red Wolves posted a 7-1 run, stretching their lead at the beginning of the frame. EIU clawed their way back, closing the score to 9-11, before another 7-1 run allowed for ASU to secure the set. Kaitlyn Flynn recorded four kills in the frame.

Both teams began set two with a strong performance as neither team lead by more than two points until an ASU timeout prompted a 9-3 run to claim set two 25-16 for the Red Wolves. Junior Lilli Amettis finished the set with three kills.

Eastern Illinois showed life in set three, as both teams battled for the entire frame. The Panthers tied the score at 15-15, recorded eight more ties before ASU was able to sneak away with two points to end the final set 26-24.

Flynn and Amettis both lead the offensive efforts for EIU with nine kills. Destiny Walker, Tori Mohesky, and Karli Mann also chipped in with four kills each of their own.

The Panthers are back in action as they take on Lindenwood on Friday, September 27, marking the first OVC match up of the 2024 season.
