ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team (4-8, 0-2 OVC) suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Lindenwood (8-6, 2-0 OVC) on Saturday afternoon. The final set scores were as follows: 15-25, 19-25, and 18-25.
Lindenwood opened the first set with a 13-3 run, which put EIU in a hole they were unable to dig out of as they conceded the frame. The Panthers responded by grabbing an early lead in set two, but after falling behind 8-7, they were never able to recover their advantage as the Lions created separation late to gain a 2-0 match lead.
Eastern fell behind by as many as 10 points in the third set before battling back to within four, but the comeback bid fell short with Lindenwood taking five of the last seven points to secure the set and match.
Destiny Walker led Eastern with a season-high 12 digs while adding four kills and a service ace on the offensive end.
Three other Panthers, including
Julia Stanev,
Katie Kopshever, and
Ireland Hieb, matched Walker for the team lead with four kills of their own.
EIU will return to Groniger Arena next week after spending the last month on the road. They are set to square off with Southern Indiana in a pair of OVC clashes. Match one is scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd at 6 p.m., while match two is set for Friday, October 4th at 4 p.m.Â
