Track and Field to Split Between Fighting Illini Challenge and Missouri Bob Teel Invitational

Field Athletes travel to Champaign; Sprinters, Jumpers, Distance to Columbia

ON-TAP: The Eastern Illinois Indoor Track team is set to compete in two different competitions over the course of the weekend. The Panthers are sending their field athletes north to compete in the Fighting Illini Challenge at the UI Armory on Friday, Jan. 24th as the event spans over two days. Meanwhile sprinters, jumpers, and distance runners are making the trek west to Columbia, Mo. to compete in the Bob Teel Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25th

EIU EARLY BIRD RECAP: Eastern Illinois hosted their first and only meet of the 2024-25 indoor season on Jan. 18th at Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse where eight Panthers concluded the evening with a first-place finish. Matthew Gladieux earned two first-place victories in the shot put and the weight throw to take the podium for the field athletes.

In addition, Ramsey Hunt, Enoch Appiah-Kubi and Elijah Skutt also claimed the top spot on the podium across three different jump events. Abby Venhaus, Jahleel Perrin, Brenda Torres, and Joe Stoddard found success on the track and also notched first place finishes in their own respective events.

OVC TOP THREE: After concluding the John Craft invite, EIU now stands with seven athletes who's marks sit in one of the top three places in the OVC season record list.

Matthew Gladdieux is currently second in the OVC for both shot put and weight throw after recording tosses of 16.50m (shot put) and 17.93m (weight throw) on Saturday. Joe Stoddard also had a successful home opener, finishing his race in 8:25.03 to sit at the top of OVC 3000m list. Ramsey Hunt holds the other first place spot for the Panthers as his long jump attempt of 7.60m propelled him to the top of the OVC.In addition, Elijah Skutt currently stands in second place in the conference for high jump after recording a height of 2.05m.

Furthermore, The EIU women's indoor track team also currently holds three athletes who reside in the third place spot in the OVC for their respective events.

Brenda Torres ran a strong mile at the John Craft invite and finished with a time of 5:04.01 to secure the number three spot in the conference. Mackenzie Aldgridge finished the 3k race in 10:07.29 and Isaabella Fabrizio recorded a shot put distance of 13.54m as both athletes also secured the third place spot in the OVC.

NEXT UP: The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 as they travel to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the DePaul Blue Demon Alumni Classic.
