The Panthers volleyball winning streak continues. The streak extended to five wins in a row after sweeping Little Rock in the first match of the weekend. EIU improves to 13-6 (7-2 OVC), while Little Rock drops to 11-10 (6-3 OVC).
Set One: EIU opened the match, winning set one 25-22. Both teams battled tightly throughout the match, which included 7 ties and 3 lead changes. Little Rock held a two-point advantage heading into media timeout, 15-13. After the break in the action, EIU regained the lead and never looked back. The Panthers led late 20-16 after a tremendous kill by Lilli Amettis off of a great set by Ariadna Pereles. As play continued, EIU's defense held strong, including a set point block assisted by Anaya Rawlinson and Catalina Rochaix. As a team, the Panthers recorded 14 kills, 2 service aces, and 2 blocks. Lilli Amettis recorded a .500 hitting percentage, leading the team in kills with 5.Â
Set Two: The Trojans sped out of the gate using a 6-0 scoring run early to take an 11-6 lead. After an EIU timeout, the Panthers responded quickly with a 4-0 scoring run of their own to close the deficit. With the set tied at 15 apiece, both teams took turns scoring. As the set continued, the score remained tied at 20-20 until EIU scored the next three out of five points. The Trojans were forced to call a timeout to break the Panthers' momentum. As usual, Tori Mohesky records a service ace, followed by a kill from Katie Kopshever to close out set two, winning 25-23.Â
Set Three: Leading two sets to zero, EIU jumped out of the gate, scoring four straight points. The Panthers continued their strong play, leading 14-9, fueled by Katie Kopshever and Lilli Amettis. At the media timeout, EIU led 15-10 with the match in their hands. After the break, Little Rock would provide resistance, scoring six unanswered points and forcing an EIU timeout. The Panthers wouldn't panic and regained momentum with a late 20-18 lead. Head coach Ryan Millar would use his second timeout after the Trojans scored two straight. Eastern Illinois' lead dwindled, but they used their spectacular defensive effort once again to close out the set 25-21. The Panthers relied on block assists from Destiny Walker and Emma Schroeder to clinch the set and complete a sweep over Little Rock.Â

By The Numbers: Katie Kopshever and Catalina Rochaix led the way offensively. Kopshever recorded 14 kills and 11 digs, while Rochaix totaled 44 assists. Lilli Amettis also produced 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .312. Defensively, Ariadna Pereles and Emma Schroeder held strong. Schroeder produced 4 blocks paired with Pereles' 25 digs.
