Liberty was able to find the only goal of the afternoon as the Flames ended Eastern Illinois men's soccer season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Panthers in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
EIU ends its season at 4-9-4 under first-year head coach
Ruy Vaz. During the season EIU posted a streak of five straight unbeaten matches, the most for the Panthers since 2017. EIU also had a consecutive match streak of scoring at least one goal of six straight matches (the longest since 2013) end in Sunday's loss.
Liberty improved to 9-4-6 and will face No. 2 seed Houston Christian on Wednesday.
Liberty found the lone goal of the match in the 18th minute with Sam Farner scoring his fifth goal of the season. Â
EIU had one shot on goal for the match by
Casey Welage. The Panthers continued to apply pressure in the second half with six second half shots.Â
Shion Hayashi had a good opportunity in the 63rd minute for EIU but sent his shot just high over the cross bar.

Lucas Ortiz made six saves in the match including turning away a penalty kick by the Flames in the 84th minute.
