Lindenwood knocked off Eastern Illinois for the first time in school history handing EIU its second straight loss and creating a tie for first place in the OVC standings. Lindenwood won 57-55.
EIU got off to a blistering start hitting 4-of-6 from 3-point range in the opening quarter as they built a 21-11 lead after ten minutes of play.
Kiyley Flowers had two of those four 3-pointers in the opening quarter as she finished with eight points.
EIU played most of the second quarter without starters Flowers,
Macy McGlone and
Lalani Ellis as all three were saddled with three first half fouls.
Ellie Colson came off the bench and scored a late field goal in the second quarter to give EIU a 30-26 lead at the half.
The Panthers were able to keep Lindenwood at an arm's length most of the third quarter with Mya Skoff knotting the game at 39-39 with 1:37 left in the third quarter. She gave the Lions a 41-40 lead with free throws to close the quarter.
The two teams traded the lead for the opening portion of the fourth quarter with Mykayla Cunningham knocking down a pair of big baskets with just over four minutes remaining to help Lindenwood secure the win.
McGlone led all players with 21 points, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. EIU closed the game 1-of-10 from 3-point range over the final three quarters with the lone 3-pointer coming as time expired by
Adriana Arroyo for the final points.
Justis Odom led Lindenwood with 15 points. Skoff had 11 points and Gracy Wernli added ten.
EIU dropped to 13-8 overall, 10-2 in the OVC. Lindenwood moved into a first-place tie with EIU at 14-7 overall, 10-2 in the OVC.
