Troy used a big fifth inning on Sunday as the Trojans beat Eastern Illinois 10-2 to close out play at the Troy Cardinal Classic.
The Trojans took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings.
EIU knotted the game at 2-2 in the fourth.Â
Karson Davey drove home the Panthers first run with a double down the right field line. Davey came around to score on a
Sophie Cerveny single up the middle for the second EIU run.
In the fifth Troy loaded the bases and scored its first run as Caiden Oliva was hit by a pitch. A Trojans sacrifice fly pushed across the second run of the inning. Troy then strung together four consecutive singles with the final hit a two-run single by McKinnon Howard. Four of the seven runs in the inning were unearned.
McKenzie Oslanzi (1-4) took the loss for EIU as the Panthers are now 3-7.Â
Kendall Grover led the Panthers offense going 2-for-3 for the third straight game.
Alyssa Faircloth (3-1) picked up the win for Troy as the Trojans improved to 6-3. Howard had three hits to lead Troy.
