Eastern Illinois went cold from the field in the fourth quarter on Thursday night at Southern Indiana as the Panthers lost on the road to the Screaming Eagles, 66-46. EIU remains locked in third place in the OVC standings with a 16-10 overall record and 13-4 mark in the OVC. The Panthers now trail Tennessee Tech and Lindenwood by two games in the OVC standings as both teams won on Thursday improving to 15-2 in the league race. EIU does hold a two-game lead over both Little Rock and Southern Indiana who are tied for fourth with OVC records of 11-6. The top four teams received at least one bye in the OVC Tournament with the top two seeds receiving a double bye to the OVC semifinals. EIU wraps up its final road trip of the year on Saturday at Morehead State with the Eagles battling to earn the final tournament spot at 8-19 overall, 3-14 in the OVC.
PHILLIPO WITH A SEASON HIGH
Freshman
Alanna Phillipo came off the bench providing an offensive spark on Thursday night at Southern Indiana. Phillipo knocked down a pair of free throws late in the third quarter collecting her first points since scoring eight points on January 23 against Morehead State. She followed that with a 3-pointer to end the quarter as EIU trimmed the USI lead to single digits. Phillipo's next points would be with just over three minutes remaining in the game accounting for the first EIU points of the fourth quarter. She ended the night scoring a season high nine points and was perfect on her shooting going 2-of-2 from the field, 1-of-1 from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
MCGLONE'S EIU RECORD BOOK CHASE CONTINUES
Macy McGlone continues to move up the EIU career charts as she now needs 25 points to move into the EIU career Top 10 for scoring. McGlone is currently 11th with 1,409 points as she moved past three players on the career list with her performance last Saturday against UT Martin. The senior is already third on the EIU career rebounds list with 882 and third in career blocks with 153. She had one block on Thursday at Southern Indiana giving her at least one blocked shot in 17 straight games. McGlone posted her league leading 14th double-double of the season in the game against UT Martin finishing with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She is currently 8th in the NCAA in double-doubles and rebounds per game this season. McGlone owns the EIU single season (26) and career mark (44) for double-doubles at EIU.
