GAME 29
Eastern Illinois opened its final road trip of the 2025 season with a 63-54 win at Southern Indiana. The Panthers entered the game needing to at the very least win out in their final four games to have an outside shot at making the OVC Tournament field. Despite the win, the Panthers were still eliminated from the tournament picture as the teams they were chasing for the final spot picked up wins to mathematically eliminate EIU. The Panthers head to Morehead State on Saturday with a 9-19 overall record, 5-12 in the OVC. Morehead State enters the game having lost six straight and seven of their last eight since beating EIU back on January 23 in Charleston. The Eagles are now 14-14 overall, 9-8 in the OVC.Â
ALL PRODUCTION FROM THE STARTING FIVE
Eastern Illinois had solid play from its starting five on Thursday in the win over Southern Indiana as the five players combined for all 63 of the Panthers points in the game. In fact the four players that saw time off the bench in the game only took two shots from the field with
Obadiah Curtis and
Malik Olafioye each going 0-for-1 from the field.Â
Nakyel Shelton (18 pts),
Artese Stapleton (17 pts) and
Zion Fruster (13 pts) all finished in double figures for the starting five with
Rodolfo Bolis adding nine points and
Kooper Jacobi the final six. The last time EIU had all of its point production in a game come from the starting five was last season on January 11 in a home loss to Morehead State when the Panthers starters combined to score all 52 of EIU's points. Â
BOLIS JUST MISSES A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Senior
Rodolfo Bolis is closing in on playing his 100th career game at Eastern Illinois as the lone four-year player on the Panthers roster. On Thursday night he just missed on a double-double for the second time this season finishing with nine points and nine rebounds at Southern Indiana. Earlier this year he just missed one at Southeast Missouri finishing that game with ten points and nine rebounds. Bolis does have one career double-double which he collected during his freshman season scoring 13 points with 11 rebounds in a home win over UT Martin. Bolis has six double figure scoring games and two double figure rebounding games in his EIU career.
