Katie Novik converted a three-point play with 1.9 seconds remaining as Morehead State upset Eastern Illinois 62-61 on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Arena.
Leading 61-59, EIU made a defensive stand with 16 seconds remaining as
Sydney-James Desroches cleared the rebound on a missed shot.  EIU would turn the ball over on the inbounds pass allowing the Eagles one final attempt to tie or win. Novik made the lay-up and was fouled finishing with 23 points.
EIU had balanced scoring throughout the game with four players finishing in double figures.Â
Macy McGlone led EIU with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Alex Rouse scored nine of her 13 points in the opening half as EIU held a 29-25 lead with 12 baskets on ten assists.
Desroches scored 11 of her 13 points in the third quarter for the Panthers but sharp 3-point shooting by Aileen Marquez to end the quarter for the Eagles kept MSU in the game as EIU led 49-48 after three quarters. Marquez hit her first five 3-pointers scoring 15 points off the bench.
Lalani Ellis sparked a 7-2 run for EIU in the fourth quarter with a jumper, three-pointer and assist on a basket by Desroches which put EIU up 61-54 with 2:25 to play.
Morehead State scored the final eight points of the game to secure the upset improving to 9-19 overall, 4-14 in the OVC. EIU fell to 16-11 overall, 13-5 in the OVC.
