GAME 24
Eastern Illinois extended its current win streak to three straight as the Panthers improved to 8-15 overall, 4-8 in the OVC. All three wins have come on the road away from Groniger Arena as EIU is in the midst of a five-game swing away from home with Tuesday's game at SIUE and then this Saturday's contest at Tennessee Tech wrapping up the long trip. The Cougars enter the week just one game out of first place in the OVC race sitting in a three-way tie with an 8-4 OVC record. SIUE is 15-8 overall.
JACOBI NAMED OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kooper Jacobi was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday after averaging a double-double in all three games last week as the Panthers posted a 3-0 record. Jacobi had a true double-double at Western Illinois (14 pts, 11 reb) to post his OVC leading ninth double-double this season, that total ranking 17th in the NCAA. He averaged 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds for the week shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Jacobi was one rebound shy of a double-double against Little Rock after scoring 12 points and then came up one point short of a double-double with 11 rebounds on Saturday at Lindenwood. It marked the fifth time this season Jacobi has missed a double-double by either a point or rebound. He leads the OVC in rebounding at 9.7 per game which ranks 19th in the NCAA with a conference best 76 offensive rebounds.
WINS ON THE ROAD
Eastern Illinois won all three games last week in OVC play opening with a make-up neutral site game against Little Rock on Monday and two true road games at Western Illinois and Lindenwood during the weekend. The weekend sweep marked the second straight season EIU has swept at least one OVC weekend trip after opening last year with road wins at UT Martin and Little Rock. The current three game win streak is the longest for EIU since two years ago when the Panthers won four straight with wins over IU Indy and Iowa before a 2-0 start to OVC action. The last time EIU won three straight OVC games was during the 2019-20 season closing the out the regular season with four straight wins. The last time EIU had three straight OVC road wins was during the 2014-15 season.
