Grover Hits Three Home Runs In Softball Split

Panthers open OVC play with 11-0 win before 3-2 loss

Kendall Grover hit three home runs on Saturday afternoon as Eastern Illinois and Lindenwood split a doubleheader to open Ohio Valley Conference play.

EIU won the opener 11-0 in five innings before Lindenwood scored in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 game two win.

Kendall Grover was 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs as Eastern Illinois opened OVC play with an 11-0 win over Lindenwood.

Grover opened the first inning with a two-run home run as the Panthers scored three in the opening inning.  EIU would tack on multiple runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for the run-rule victory.

EIU had a pair of unearned runs in the third with Grover leading off the inning with a double before coming around to score one of her four runs in the game.  She walked and scored in the fourth and had a three run homer in
the fifth to account for her five RBI.

The Panthers runs in the third were unearned with Briana Gonzalez driving in two of the three runs in the fourth with a double.  Gonzalez was 3-for-3 in the game.  Alisha Frederick was 2-for-4 as the other Panther with multiple hits.

McKenzie Oslanzi (6-6) tossed a complete game shutout allowing five hits.  Irelynn West had a double in the third for the only extra base hit for Lindenwood.

Avery Wapp (4-3) took the loss for Lindenwood in the circle.  Jolie McMinn had two of the Lions five hits in the game.

Lindenwood scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to beat EIU 3-2 to earn a split for the day.

With the game tied 2-2 heading into the seventh Tori Hatton drew a one-out walk.  Pinch runner Hanna Johanning came around to score the winning run on an EIU error with two outs.

EIU took an early 1-0 lead scoring in the opening frame for the second straight game on an RBI ground out by Alisha Frederick. 

After Irelynn West homered in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1, Kendall Grover hit her third home run of the day in the sixth to put the Panthers in front 2-1.   Grover picked up one of four hits EIU would get in the game.

West tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with her second hit of the game with single up the middle.  West was the lone Lions player with multiple hits going 2-for-3 as Lindenwood managed just three hits in the game.

Ryleigh Owens (4-2) threw a complete game for the win for Lindenwood.  McKenzie Oslanzi (6-7) suffered the loss in relief allowing the one unearned run.

EIU is now 9-13 overall, 1-1 in the OVC.  Lindenwood is 10-8, 1-1 in the OVC.
