Mya Mirocha turned in the best performance by an Eastern Illinois women's golfer at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in more than 15 years as she finished in a tie for seventh at this year's event played at the RTJ Golf Trail The Shoals – Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
Mirocha had a consistent performance throughout the 54-hole tournament with rounds of 77, 77 and 78 to card a total of 232. The 54-hole score is the second best OVC total turned in by an EIU golfer, second only to Carrie Riordan's 230 during the 2009 championship when Riordan was the individual OVC champion. The 232 score also ranked as the eighth best 54-hole score in program history.
Mirocha's seventh place finish was the best since Riordan's championship round in 2009. Jaymie Voorhees (11th in 2010) and Kathryn Koester (12th in 2012) are the only other Panthers golfers since Riordan to post Top 15 OVC finishes prior to Mirocha's performance this week.
As a team EIU fielded only four scored golfers and finished eighth in the field. The team's best round was 328 in the opening round which at the time had them one stroke out of sixth place. EIU finished four strokes behind Southern Indiana which was seventh and 12 total strokes behind Bryant in sixth place. Morehead State was the team champion with the Eagles Tuva Isebakke the individual medalist.
Meera Upadhyay was EIU's second ranked golfer for the week placing 24th with a final round of 82. Upadhyay shot 248 for the championship with her best round of 81 coming on Monday.
Olivia Quigley and
Morgan Grant tied for 36th as the final Panthers golfers. Quigley shot 94 in the final round with her best score of 81 coming in the opening round. Grant closed with a 91 after her best round of 85 came on Sunday.
