MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eastern Illinois beach volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of conference matches in Morehead on Saturday.
The Panthers fell to Tennessee Tech in a narrow 2-3 defeat before dropping the season finale 1-4 against Chattanooga.
Against Tennessee Tech, the Panthers got off to a strong start as
Kaitlyn Flynn and
Ariadna Pereles picked up a straight set win (21-11, 21-15) in the No. 4 position.
No. 5 pair
Julia Udell and
Lilli Amettis kept the momentum going with a 2-1 win (20-22, 21-13, 15-10) to put Eastern ahead 2-0 in the match.
After Tech picked up a point in flight No. 1,
Tori Mohesky and
Sylvia Hasz fell just short of clinching the match for EIU, as they dropped the No. 3 pairing 1-2 (21-10, 13-21, 9-15).
The Golden Eagles completed the comeback with a straight set win in the No. 2 matchup.
Against the Mocs,
Tori Mohesky and
Sylvia Hasz got EIU on the board with a 2-1 win in the No. 3 spot (16-21, 21-19, 18-16).
The No. 2 pair of
Laura Paniagua and
Emma Schroeder nearly captured a second point for the Panthers, but lost their matchup 1-2 (21-18, 12-21, 8-15) after taking the first set.
UTC took the other three pairs in straight sets.
Next up for EIU is the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in Chattanooga, which is set to begin on Thursday, April 24th and run through Saturday, April 26th.
