Eastern Illinois men's basketball coach
Marty Simmons has announced the addition of guard Andre Washington to the Panthers roster for next season.
Washington (5'11", 180) is a transfer from Long Island University where he was a member of the LIU program for three seasons before missing all of last season. Washington played in 67 games over three seasons with the Blackbirds averaging double figures as a sophomore in 2022-23. He was twice named a NEC Prime Performer during the season which included a career-high 37 points with six 3-pointers against Saint Francis.
"Washington is a veteran guard that will bring both a level of maturity and proven Division I playing experience to our program," said Simmons. "He has shown his ability to both score and distribute the basketball at the Division I level and he will be a nice addition to our roster this season. We look forward to getting Andre on campus to be part of our basketball family."
During his junior season at LIU he averaged 6 points per game closing the season with double figures in three of the final five games which included a season high 18 points against Merrimack in the NEC Tournament quarterfinals. He averaged 11.5 points per game as a sophomore after playing in 25 games as a freshman (1.8 points / 1.4 assists per game). A native of Staten Island, NY, Washington graduated from Williston Northampton High School in East Hampton, Massachusetts. He was a two-time team MVP and All-NEPSAC as a senior averaging 18.4 points and 5.0 assists per game.
Washington joins incoming high school players Luke Beickman (6'2", 180, G, Owensboro, Ky.) and Markus Blackwell (6'1", 180, G, Detroit, Mich.) along with transfer post player Nazareth Fisher (6'10", 220, F, Washington, D.C.) and junior college guards JT Elder (6'7", 200, G, Tucson, Ariz.), Preston Turner (6'6", 185, G, Ellsinore, Mo.) and Demetris "Meechie" White (6'1", 175, G, Louisville, Ky.) as part of the Panthers 2025-26 class.
