Eastern Illinois men's basketball coach
Marty Simmons has added another piece to the Panthers roster for next season with the addition of forward Prince Johnson.
Â
Johnson (6'8" / 215) comes to Eastern Illinois after playing last season at Gulf Coast State College where he averaged 6.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game playing in 33 games.  He finished the season with eight double figure scoring games while connecting for 56.7 percent from the floor. Around the rim, Johnson led Gulf Coast with 32 blocks which ranked 11th in the FCSAA for the season.
Â
"Prince is a long, athletic forward that can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He is a rim protector on the defensive end while providing a steady offensive option in the low block," said Simmons. "We are excited to welcome Prince to the EIU basketball family and see how he can contribute this season."
Â
Johnson played his freshman college season (2023-24) at Chipola College where he appeared in 13 games shooting 57.1 percent from the field.Â
Â
A native of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Johnson competed at Pebblebrook High School in Georgia his senior season where he was rated the 8th-best power forward in the state of Georgia by SandysSpeiels.com. He began his prep career playing at Marlboro County High School where he led his team to the South Carolina AAA Region 6 championship. He played on the club level with the Atlanta Celtics.  Â
