Eastern Illinois broke through the tight possession battle late in the second half to win the 2025 home opener at Lakeside Field.Â
EIU moves to 1-2 on the season, while IU Indy falls to 0-2.
Both teams were flip-flopping possession throughout the first half, with IU Indy holding momentum with six shots, four of them being on target.Â
The Panthers and Jaguars continued their close fight until late heroics by EIU's forward
Alex Tetteh racing down the left wing and finding the back of the net with the assist coming from
Kate Germano.Â
With not a lot of time left, the EIU defense stood strong, with Panthers goalie
Ella Kratochvil recording five saves.Â
Outside of the goal scored,
Abby Reinl contributed three shots, and multiple Panther attackers recorded a shot apiece.Â
The EIU women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., facing Ball State at Lakeside Field.Â
