Alex Tetteh had a day for the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team posting not only her second career hat trick but going one better than that total with four goals during the Panthers 4-0 win at Western Illinois.
The four goals tied the EIU school record previously held by both Tracie Strother (1996 vs Little Rock) and Beth Aussin (1996 vs Lewis). Tetteh became the eighth Ohio Valley Conference player to score four goals in a match to etch her name in the conference record book, the last was by SIUE's Kayla Delgado in 2013.
Tetteh opened the scoring innocently enough with a left-footed goal in the seventh minute on a cross by
Ashlyn Nobles.
EIU led 2-0 at the half with Tetteh's second goal coming midway through the opening half off an assist by
Camylle Graves in the 28th minute.
The hat trick came in the 50th minute as Tetteh redirected a loose ball in front of the net on a solid shot sent into the box by
Abby Reinl.
The record tying goal came nine minutes later in the 59th minute as Tetteh sent a header to the upper right corner off a pass sent into the box by
Brooklynn Greene.
EIU ended the match with 15 total shots, eight of them coming from Tetteh as EIU improved to 5-4-2 on the season, 2-0 in the OVC. It is the best start to a conference season for EIU since 2013 when EIU opened the year 4-0 in OVC action.
Ella Kratochvil posted her fourth straight shutout as she moved into fifth place on the EIU career shutouts list with 11. Kratochvil made two saves in the match.
Western Illinois dropped to 1-11 overall, 0-2 in the OVC. Hana Daoudi and Elise Grant had the shots on goal for the Leathernecks.
