Eastern Illinois redshirt freshman linebacker Davian Humphrey was named the Ohio Valley Conference Rookie of the Week following his efforts in the Panthers OVC road win on Saturday at Gardner-Webb.
 
Humphrey came up big on special teams during the contest as EIU won 21-7 on a rain soaked day in North Carolina.   The Chicago native recorded three total tackles but was involved in two big special teams plays.  He forced one fumble on a punt return which was recovered for one of six takeaways by the EIU defense and special teams.   Early in the third quarter he recovered a mishandled GWU punt attempt at the 1-yard line setting up the first score of the game.
 
EIU returns to action this Saturday playing back at home for the first time in five weeks as the Panthers host Lindenwood at 2 pm.
