Senior day was special for Eastern Illinois women's soccer as the Panthers picked up a 2-1 win over in-state rival Western Illinois for their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.
Â
EIU improved to 3-5-3 overall, 1-1 in the OVC. WIU fell to 1-12 overall, 0-2 in the OVC.
Â
Senior
Alex Tetteh had a big role during the day playing a part in both EIU goals in the contest.
Â
She put the Panthers up 1-0 in the 18th minute with her 21st career goal with an assist from fellow senior
Amelia Mundo.
Â
The match was tied 1-1 at the half as an own goal by EIU attributed for the Western Illinois first half tally in the 36th minute.
Â
In the final 15 minutes Tetteh found space and raced down the right side of the pitch passing to a wide open
Amara Leppla as Leatherneck defenders closed on Tetteh's position. Leppla flicked on a right-footed touch for the match winner in the 78th minute.  It was the third straight match with a goal for the Panthers freshman.
