EIU Swimming Speeds Past Olivet Nazarene

Poyraz San Askin breaks the 1650-yard freestyle school record with a time of 15:46.69

Eastern Illinois faces no trouble in their home opener, sweeping the dual meet. The EIU men's team won 195-65, while the women earned a 175-86 victory. 

Men's Swimming 
The Panthers opened the meet, winning the 400-yard medley relay (RJ Higgins, Nolan Wallace, Luke Helm, and Jack Hannon) with a final time of 3:26.60.  

Poyraz San Askin broke the program's 1650-yard freestyle record with a time of 15:46.69. Askin also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:38.19, which ranks eighth fastest in school history.  

EIU went one-and-two in the 200-yard freestyle with Luke Helm earning gold with a time of 1:46.82, followed by Elijah Nevins securing a time of 1:47.64.  

Higgins secured first-place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.43.  

Simonas Rimskis won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.82, ranking 10th fastest in school history.  

In the 50-yard freestyle, Eastern Illinois recorded the top three finishes: Shane Gabel (21.77), Carson Hughes (22.08), and Landon Dehn (22.17).  

Jameson Cooke earned a gold medal in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:18.32.  

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Helm, Hannon, Rimskis, and Hughes faced no trouble, cruising to first place with a time of 3:10.49.  

Women's Swimming  
Like the men's team, the women opened the meet with a convincing first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (Jenna Patridge, Macy Ahrens, Sophia Buswell, and Maja Przybylska) with a time of 3:58.44.  

Remingtyn Bokos dominated the 1650-yard freestyle, with a gold medal time of 18:14.64.  

Patridge followed up her IU Indy Invite performance with a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a finishing time of 58.03, which tied for the fifth fastest in EIU history. Patridge also won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.17, ranking seventh fastest in school history.   

Ahrens earned a narrow win in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by 0.16 seconds. Her final time was 1:09.16. Ahrens also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.76.  

Przybylska and Patridge went one-and-two in the 50-yard freestyle. Przybylska earned a time of 24.90, while Patridge secured a time of 25.02.  

In her first home collegiate meet, Summer Pfeiffer earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.28.  

Sophia Buswell flew away from the competition in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.61.
