Eastern Illinois women's basketball head coach Marqus McGlothan has announced the signing of junior college forward Itxasne Fernandez Arguello.

Fernandez Arguello hails from Spain (Castro Urdiales) and played the last two seasons at Otero Junior College.   The 6'1" forward earned All-Region honors leading her team in scoring at 20.5 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor.  She scored 30 or more points in four games with a breakout game of 44 points against Seward County CC.  Fernandez Arguello posted four double-doubles during the year averaging 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest.

As a freshman at Otero JC, she averaged 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game shooting 47.4 percent from the floor.  She scored in double figures 11 times ending the season with a 21-point game against Trinidad State CC.

"Itxasne is a long, athletic player that has been a proven scorer at the junior college level," said McGlothan.  "She can score from all three levels and will help extend and improve our offense in all those areas."

She joins incoming freshmen Alahnna Simpson (La Crosse, Wis. / La Crosse Central HS) and Dalia Grandberry (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Rolling Meadows HS) who both signed with the Panthers back in November.
