Three First Place Finishes For EIU Track

Panthers end two days at the Gibson Invite

Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field turned in three first place finishes and three EIU Top Ten all-time performances over two days at the Indiana State Gibson Invite.
 
Alex Stout, Cale Smith and Maliek Bush all landed with first place finishes on the podium while Stout and Analena Peterson both turned in EIU top ten performances.
 
Stout won the men's shot put with a throw of 54'2" with teammate Kaden Salisbury finishing fifth with a throw of 50'5.25".  On Friday Stout competed in the hammer throw invite placing eighth in the competitive field but posting the seventh best all-time result in school history with a throw of 184'1".
 
Smith won the men's steeplechase on Friday night with a time of 9:24.45.  Teammate Mason Stoeger was third in the event with a time of 9:40.32.
 
Maliek Bush won the men's long jump invite with a mark of 24'1.50".
 
On the women's side Analena Peterson had a pair of top five finishes.  She placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.87 which ranks tenth best in school history.  Peterson then was fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.46.

Mikaila Ek posted a career top ten mark in the women's pole vault.  She cleared 11'9.25" to improve upon her own 10th place all-time height at EIU.  Ek was 11th in a competitive pole vault field.
 
Angela Dobbins was third in the women's long jump invite with a leap of 18'7.25".   Emily Sykes and Marco Reynolds tacked on Top 5 finishes in field events for the Panther women.  Sykes was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43'6".  Reynolds was fifth in the discus with a throw of 134'1".
 
Additional Top 5 men's field event finishes for EIU included Machi Nelson with a fourth place finish in the high jump (6'4.75") and Jacob Maxwell finishing third in the discus (157'7").
 
In running events EIU had three individual Top 5 finishes with the 4x100 relay team placing fourth at 40.87.  Weston Averkamp was fourth in the 400 hurdles (54.40).  Michael Atkins was fifth in the 5,000 meter run (15:12.83) and Bradley Ahrens was fifth in the 1,500 meter run (3:57.25).
