Eastern Illinois men's basketball head coach
Marty Simmons continues to add to the Panthers roster for next season with the signing of junior college guard Jalen Calloway.

Calloway is a dynamic guard that comes to Eastern Illinois after two seasons at Vincennes University where he helped lead the team to the NJCAA National Tournament this past season. A player with versatile skill, craftiness and athleticism, Callaway earned All-Region honors as a sophomore averaging 14.6 points, 3.9 points and 3.5 assists per game. He shot 36.6 percent from 3-point range during the season finishing the year with 23 double figure scoring games including a high of 30 points against Lake Land College.

"Jalen is a competitor that understands how to win," said Simmons. "His ability to create plays, use his athleticism, and make winning decisions will add immediate value to our team. He has consistently made an impact on both ends of the floor while playing a key role in successful programs throughout his career. He's been part of strong cultures and that will carry over here at EIU."

Calloway (6'3", 175) played two seasons at Vincennes averaging 6.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game as a freshman on a team that won 28 games, advancing to the third round of the NJCAA National Tournament. He was a starter this past season on a team that was ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA ranks during the season and finished with 31 wins. He was rated in the Top 100 JUCO players in the nation by JucoRecruiting.com.

A hard-nosed, team-first player who thrives in competitive environments, Callaway is a native of Chicago, Illinois where he played at Lincoln Park High School averaging double figures as a senior. He spent one season at ABC Prep in Albuquerque, New Mexico averaging in double figures before his two seasons at Vincennes.

Calloway is the latest player to join the Panthers roster for next season. He joins standout high school guard Jayden Wright (Benet Academy) who signed in November along with four other spring additions – Jalen Miller (Guard / East Central Oklahoma), Demar Burton (Forward / Tiffin University), Devin Davenport (Guard / Missouri Valley College) and Daniel Ntambwe (Wing / Coffeeyville CC).
