Eastern Illinois senior running back
Charles Kellom opened the season with a dominating performance on the ground in the Panthers win over Murray State. On Monday he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Kellom rushed for 171 yards on 19 carries for a 9.0 yards per carry average. He had three touchdowns helping the Panthers post the season opening 28-14 win over the Racers.
Kellom scored his first touchdown from 10 yards out midway through the second quarter. He scored in the final minute of the first half breaking an 88-yard run that put the Panthers up 14-7. The 88-yard run tied for the fourth longest touchdown run in program history.
He would help put the game away with a third quarter 2-yard touchdown plunge as he posted his third career 100-yard effort.
EIU returns to action this Thursday playing at Big Ten member Minnesota.
