Biography

EIU (2007-08): As a true freshman, she notched a 10-5 singles mark, mostly at the No. 4 spot, which was the second best record on the squad... went 4-3 in league play at that position... finished 7-6 in doubles play when teamed with Carrie Larson at No. 3 duos... won five of her first six singles matchups on the year and ended the season on a three-match win streak as well.... 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played four years of varsity tennis at Belleville West HS... played at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles her final three years... four-time first team selection for All-Southwestern Conference, All-Metro and All-Area... three-time sectional champion, four-time conference singles and doubles champion... first team All-State as a senior... placed fourth at 2007 IHSA State Tournament in doubles... ranked as high as No. 7 in St. Louis district and No. 26 in Missouri Valley Section... National Honor Society... top 10 percent academically in her graduating class.... 

PERSONAL: Is a pre-vet/biological sciences major... heavily involved in helping at the Humane Society in the St. Louis Metro area... No. 1 sports highlight was “winning the third set of the match that put doubles team into state tournament semifinals”... daughter of Charles & Lynn Allgire.... 

FUN STUFF: ‘Abs’ choose to come to Eastern “because EIU has the comfort of a small school, but has the atmosphere of a big school”... if she could switches places with anyone for a day, it would be her bulldog, ‘Buddy’, “because he gets to lay down, play fetch and pee outside”...her favorite place on campus is “the big clock”... enjoyed recently taking Dr. Landrus’ foreign language class... her advice to a younger athlete is “just do it”... since coming to EIU she has learned “how to do laundry”... currently drives a 2005 Honda Civic... her favorite quote comes from actor Ryan Gosling, “if you’re a bird, I’m a bird”... her personal goal to achieve while at EIU is to “become fluent in Spanish and have a great tennis season with my team... plus I hope to get into law school”.... 

BLACKBURN SAYS: “Abby had a great freshman season... coming on strong towards the end of the season in conference play... I think her best college tennis is ahead of her and she’ll become an impact player for us this year.”
