Biography
EIU (2007-08): Playing mostly at No. 3 singles, she notched a 9-8 record in that spot, while finishing 9-9 overall... six of her dual victories came in straight sets... played alongside Natalie Martin at No. 1 doubles, where they tallied a 10-5 overall mark and 3-3 league record....
EIU (2006-07): Became first-ever EIU tennis player to earn an OVC ’Freshman of the Year’ honor, after posting a 16-6 record as a true freshman... was 9-1 in OVC action as Panthers finished in third place... rotated between No. 4 and No. 5 singles going 5-1 at No. 4 and 11-5 at No. 5 singles... won eight straight matches to end regular-season... teamed with Natalie Martin at No. 1 doubles going 17-4 in doubles action... tandem was reached No. 56 in the Fila College Rankings for doubles, first national ranking for EIU players....
HIGH SCHOOL: She prepped for coach Tim Sharpe at Monona Grove HS earning four letters in tennis… also lettered in soccer… three-time All-State… three-time team MVP… four-time State qualifier… Capitol Times Player of the Year as a sophomore… 102 career wins… two-time Sectional champion… ranked No. 1 doubles in USTA... three-time conference champion… played “Tennis Europe”, winning tournament in Holland and named team MVP… member of Wisconsin Whiteman Cup Team in 2006....
PERSONAL: An exercise science major... No.1 sports highlight was “being part of 2002 soccer team that won state championship”… athlete she most admires is Andre Agassi, “because of his dedication and motivation to be the best”... daughter of Chris & Janet Homburg....
FUN STUFF: Goes by the nicknames ‘Hay-Hay’, ‘Shmay’, and ‘Storm’... enjoys eating sweet potatoes, pickles, steak and ice cream, but hates doing the dishes... her favorite t.v. show is Entourage... would enjoy trading places with teammate Cara Huck for one day, “because she comes from a family of seven and I’ve never experienced a family bigger than three, which includes myself and my parents”... enjoys listening to music and doodling in class... her advice to a younger athlete would be “enjoy the ride”... a personal goal she hopes to achieve after college is to “compete and finish an Iron Man competition”... her favorite building, which she calls her second home, is Lantz... also enjoys playing soccer, volleyball, basketball, and swimming... chose to come to EIU “because Eastern is the best place in the universe”....
BLACKBURN SAYS: “Hayley is coming off a great year for us... she won some really big matches for us last year and has really assumed a strong leadership role on this year’s team... she’s also one of our best doubles players and will be a big part of things this spring.”
