2011-12 Women's Tennis Roster
Biography
2011-12: Saw limited action as a senior, going 1-1 in singles, with her win coming at the No. 5 spot... also owned a 1-2 duo mark when teamed alongside classmate Amanda Dibbs at No. 2 doubles.
2010-11: Earned an even 7-7 singles mark, including a team-best 5-3 OVC record... saw action at the No. 3 and No. 4 spot in the lineup... went 6-7 at doubles, playing a majority of her bouts at the No. 3 spot, but also seeing play at No. 2... teamed mostly with Jennifer Kim where the duo went 4-4 on the year overall.
2009-10: Finished season with 6-11 mark in singles action... saw play mostly at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, but also additional action at No. 2 and No. 4 as well... earned 6-10 doubles record, including a 3-5 league tally, where she teamed with Kristen Laird and Juliana Frey at the No. 3 spot in the Panther lineup.
2008-09: Shannon went 9-7 in singles and 9-9 in doubles during her freshman season... won five matches with Annie Egan and four with Hayley Homburg... went on an 8-2 midseason streak... won four consecutive conference matches during the 8-2 stretch and finished with a 5-3 conference mark... by the end of the season reached No. 4 singles position...
HS: Played for her dad, Brian Brooks, at West Aurora HS, where she earned varsity tennis letters all four years... also lettered in badminton her freshman year... picked up conference victories her junior and senior seasons and won sectional titles all four years....
PERSONAL: Majoring in family and consumer science, with a minor in business... daughter of Brian & Mary Kay Brooks... credits her dad for influencing her career “because he has coached me all my life and coached my high school team as well”... daughter of Brian & Mary Kay Brooks.
OFF THE COURT WITH SHANNON: Choose to come to Eastern “because I liked the other girls on the team”... besides tennis, also enjoys playing volleyball... currently driving a 2005 GMC Envoy... doesn’t care much for peas, but loves eating pizza, chicken fingers and ice cream... her favorite location on campus is “the clock tower”... since coming to EIU she has learned “how to study”... her favorite t.v. show is The Hills... enjoys watching former EIU player Tony Romo play for the Cowboys... thus she would also enjoy trading places with Jessica Simpson for one day... her advice to a younger athlete is “always try your hardest.”
