Biography
2009: Finished with a nice junior season, playing in all but one game... set new or tied single-game bests for trys, assists, solo & assisted tackles, and runs-over-20 yards... while her four penalty kicks on the year topped her previously best number of just one last year... in fact, her penalty kick as time expired helped the Panthers scratch past Northern Iowa in a home nailbiter... currently ranks in the career Top 15 for total points and assists... while her 99 total conversions is 22 shy of the top mark, but will no doubt top that number and then some with one to two more years of eligibility remaining.
2008: Coartney made the most of her first season as a Panther, setting a new EIU record for conversions in a game... her 11 kicks off 18 attempts versus Ball State helped the Panthers win, 112-3... her 55 total conversions on the year is a new EIU record and places her third in the career conversions list... she needs only 40 more kicks to take over the top spot... also went 1-1 on penalty kicks... also had double-digit conversions at Purdue, hitting 10 of 16 as EIU won 100-0... playing in every contest, she finished with double-digit point totals in five games... also had two solo tackles at Purdue and even ran in a five-point try as EIU downed UW-Stevens Point, 102-0....
HS: A local Charleston native, she earned letters in basketball (3) and soccer (1) for coaches Sam Root and Paul Stranz... in basketball she earned Charleston Times-Courier All Area honors twice... also named to Charleston Holiday Tournament All-Tournament Team, as well as voted team captain two years....
PERSONAL: A finance major, she credits her father for being the biggest influence in her sports career, “because he was always outside playing sports with me and was there to see every game I ever played”... No. 1 sports moment was “getting 24 saves in one soccer my freshman year”... daughter of Phillip & Cindy McKinney....
FUN FACTS: Coartney chose to attend EIU “because of the good business program, plus I received several scholarships from Charleston organizations”... juggling and playing the piano are two of her hidden talents... her favorite t.v. show is The Office and Ocean’s 13 is her top flick... named her westie, “Emma”... currently drives a 2005 Pontiac GTO... hobbies include playing PS2, surfing the net, golfing, bowling, and cars....
