Biography
2011: Finished a steller Panther career with another excellent season in an EIU uniform... led the team in assists, while ranking as one of the top scorers as well... tied her previous season highs in assists with 20 on the year, while tying her single-season mark by dishing out five as EIU crushed Illinois... the multiple team captain finished her career by setting an all-time mark for assists with 74... also ranked in all-time numbers for points (111), trys (21), tackles (127), assisted tackles (72), runs over 20-yards (18), and steals-at-tackle (28)... with her in the lineup, the Panthers finished with an amazing 40-1 all-time mark during her Eastern career.
2010: For the second straight season, Narissa garnered the Most Valuable Player honor as one of the team leaders and co-captains... ran-in a new career best three trys as EIU won at Purdue early in the season... those 15 points was also a new single-game high mark... needs just two more assists to tie the career high as she now sports 54 all-time to rank second in the record books... finished the year with 20 assists, tying the same mark that she earned last season... ranked in Top 15 for career trys, solo tackles, assisted stops, runs over 20-yards, and steals-at-tackle, she will most assuredly continue to add to those numbers next year.
2009: Narissa was tabbed with the top year-end award of Most Valuable Player following another successful season as a Panther... after earning the top freshman honor last season, she proceeded to top or tie every statistical category over the course of another undefeated season... she had the best assist mark of 20 dishes, while also scoring seven trys of her own... eclipsed her previous runs-over-20-yards total with eight over the course of the year... played in every game for the second consecutive year... continues to move up the EIU record book with Top 15 career rankings for points, assisted tackles, steals-at-tackle, and the fourth best mark for assists with 34 so far in her career.
2008: Narissa had a successful first season in a Panther uniform, earning the Outstanding Freshman Award for her efforts on the field... playing in every game, she ran in three trys on the season, the first of which was in EIU’s 102-0 spanking of UW-Stevens Point... dished out 14 assists, including five in EIU’s rout of Ball State to earn a spot on the single-game school record list... had five solo stops versus Iowa State and four assisted tackles against Purdue... had a run-over-20-yards in EIU’s revenge win at West Chester... and three-times earned two steals at tackle... earned the Hispanic Scholar Award.
HS: At Zion-Benton HS, she earned letters in basketball (4) and softball (2) for coaches Mike Cliff, Mike Williams and Rick Rymer... played summer league softball for the Lakeland Legends and Kenosha Cyclones.
PERSONAL: Daughter of Alberto Ramirez & Margaret Shaver... a psychology major... credits her dad for being the biggest influence on her athletic career, “because he has always pushed and encouraged me to play and be my best”... her father played football at Carthage College and semi-professionally for the Racine Raiders.
FUN FACTS: ‘Nar’, ‘Riss’, or ‘Ritz’ chose EIU “because of the comfortable feeling that the campus provides... plus it has the advantage that it’s small enough so that you are not just a number... and everyone is friendly”... drives a 1997 Dodge Stratus... ice cream and saurkraut are her favorite and least-favorite foods... Old main is her favorite building on campus... her American Bulldog is named ‘Jada’... her advice to a younger athlete is “hardwork is key”... if she could bring anything from her hometown to EIU it would be “the beach”... her favorite quote is “tomorrow is too late.”
