Biography


2011-12:  In his senior campaign, he went 7-10 in snigles, with included a 3-3 mark at the No. 5 spot... finished with 3-5 league record... owned a 9-7 doubles slate when teamed with newcomer David Constantinescu, which included 4-3 and 5-3 marks at No. 2 and No. 3 duos, respectively.

2010-11:  Recorded a singles mark of 2-11 overall and 2-5 in OVC action... played mostly at the No. 4 spot, but also saw action at No. 5-6... went just 1-15 in doubles, playing a majority of the season at the top of the duo lineup along with classmate Matyas Hilgert.

2009-10:  Went 2-17 overall in singles play... saw action mostly at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, but also significant play at No. 3... record a 5-9 doubles mark, including a 2-3 slate in league matchups.

2008-09: Posted a 9-13 singles record... spent most of the season at No. 5 singles, occasionally playing No. 6 and No. 4 singles... posted a 4-2 doubles record with partner Jeff Rutherford... went 3-4 in Ohio Valley Conference singles play.

HS: Was member of both the tennis and cricket squads while at McAuley Catholic College in Grafton, Australia. 

PERSONAL: Majoring in business management... son of Rick & Sue Firth... his No. 1 sports highlight was “winning local and district championship honors three straight years”... and going to the centenary year of the Australian Open with my dad”... his mum and dad have had the biggest influence on his playing career “because they have always been there for me when times are tough and they always believe in me.”

OFF THE COURT WITH JAMIE: 'Firthy' chose EIU “because the tennis program looked very good, as did the business department”... besides tennis, also enjoys playing cricket and soccer... his hidden talent is juggling... enjoys Thai and Chinese food, but dislikes onions... would love to trade places with Roger Federer for one day “so that I could see what it would be like to play professionally”... since coming to EIU he has learned “that it is the coldest place I have ever been to and that a lot of people are willing to help”... his favorite quote is “everything happens for a reason”, which he heard off his dad... his advice to a younger athlete is “keep practicing and things will happen and dreams will come true”... wishes he could bring "my mum's cooking, my car and my bed" with him to EIU from his hometown... his family owns five dogs - ‘Butch, Cassidy, Tyson, Chloe, & Bundy’... goals he has while at EIU include "leading the tennis team to a conference championshp and to graduate with a good GPA."
