Biography
2012-13 ... Finished her final year in Panther blue going 9-4 in singles as a junior... that included a nice 6-3 mark in league action... split time between No. 4 thru No. 6 singles... also earned a perfect 3-0 tally in No. 2 doubles when teamed with newcomer Hannah Kimbrough... OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll, with Medal of Honor accolades.
2011-12 ... Had a nice sophomore campaign, going 9-10 in singles, including a 5-3 mark in league play at the No. 4 spot in the lineup... her 3-6 duo record included a 3-1 finish at No. 3 doubles, while teamed with Amanda Dibbs, Annie Egan or Kristen Laird... OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
2010-11 ... As true freshman, she recorded a 5-11 singles mark... seeing action at both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the lineup, but playing mostly in the second slot... earned a 5-6 record in doubles, including a nice 5-3 mark at the No. 3 spot when teamed alongside Shannon Brooks and Annie Egan... OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
HIGH SCHOOL ... Four-year letterwinner in tennis, while also playing soccer for one year, for coaches Julie Schrieber, Josh Parmenter and Beth Seibold at Granite City HS... earned numerous honors over the course of her prep career... including Alton Invitational Champion at No. 1 singles, Southwestern Sectional Champ in No. 1 doubles... also multi-year All-Metro selection, including two-time First Team in No. 1 singles and Third Team in No. 1 doubles... named tennis squad MVP all four years as a member of the team... four-time Southwestern All-Conference First Team in both singles and doubles action... KMOV 'Athlete of the Week' as a freshman... two-time Belleville News Democrat 'Player of the Year' and Conference 'Player of the Year'... earned Top 20 at IHSA State meet in singles... Alton Tourney Champion... multi-year member of the Honor Roll and an Illinois State Scholar.
PERSONAL ... Pre-chiropractic major... daughter of Hong Kim & Moon Kim... No. 1 sports highlight was "placing into the Top 24 Doubles at the IHSA State Tournament alongside my sister"... credits her parents for having the biggest influence on her sports career, "because they have definitely been my foundation for everything I have decided to pursue... they have encouraged me to pursue my passion and work diligently toward my goals."
OFF THE COURT WITH KIM ... 'JKim' or 'JennyKim' chose to come to EIU, "because after my first visit, no other school really seemed quite as comfortable... plus the tennis girls were really fun"... feels some of Eastern's advantages over other Midwest and/or OVC schools are "that EIU wants to see their students succeed... Eastern takes the extra step to ensure every student is given equal opportunities and promotes hard work"... besides tennis, enjoys playing volleyball and shopping... her secret talent is that she makes really good homemade brownies... in her free time she enjoys baking, listening and dancing to music, watching movies and working out... loves to eat anything her mom cooks and is fanatic about salads with poppyseed dressing, but doesn't care much for green beans... her dog is named 'Lulu'... her advice to a young tennis player would be "to keep focused and never let anything get in the way of your dreams"... her favorite quote comes from Tim Notke -- "hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard"... a personal goal while at EIU includes "finishing my undergraduate studies and to make a positive impact on our women's tennis team."
