Biography
2012-13 ... Third All-Summit League kudos as a senior member of three different relay squads -- 200-Medley Relay squad that set a new school record, plus the 200-Free and 400-Free Relays -- that all placed in the Top 3 at the league meet... individually he also set a new EIU mark in the 200-IM by placing fourth at the championship... also improved his EIU Top 10 time in the 100-Back to now own the third fastest time.
2011-12 ... Nabbed All-Summit League honors for the second consecutive season, as he was a member of the new EIU school-record 200-Medley Relay unit... he swam the third leg of the group that finished third at the end-of-season league meet with a time of 1:32.27... also bested his previous Panther Top 10 mark in the 100-Back as he now owns the third fastest time in that event... naturally owned the best team finishes in the 100-Free, as well as the 200-IM... while ranking second in the 100-Back and third for both the 200-Back and 200-Breast... also saw action in the other four top three relay times in the 200-Medley, 400-Free, 400-Medley, and 800-Free events.
2010-11 ... Earned All-Summit League honors as he swam the third leg of the second place 800-Free Relay squad at the end-of-season meet… the foursome also set a new school record in the process… also set new personal bests in the 200-Back and 400-IM.
2009-10 ... As a freshman he earned the second fastest Panther time in the 200-IM… while also marking the fourth best EIU time in both the 100 and 200-Back events… also saw action in 200-Free, 50-Back, 100-Breast, and 100-Fly.
HIGH SCHOOL ... Swam four years for coach Matt Hopkins at Champaign Central HS, just up the road on I-57 from EIU... two-year team captain as junior/senior... earned All-American honors in the 200-Medley Relay in 2006 and 2009, the 100-Breast in 2009, and the 200-IM in 2008-09... set new Sectional record in the 200-Medley Relay... named All-Area ‘Swimmer of the Year’ in 2008 and 2009 by the Champaign News-Gazette... four-time IHSA state finalist and five-time All-American... member of the Champaign HEAT Club Team that earned National honors in 2008.
PERSONAL ... Majoring in management information systems... son of Steve & Julie Lacine… born on July 21... No. 1 personal sports highlight was “setting the medley relay record at the sectional meet in our own high school pool”… credits all the McGills for having the biggest influence on his sports career, “because each one are hard workers and great examples”… his sister, Stephanie, swam on the intercollegiate squad at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa… while his other sister, Mary, is also a member of the Panther swim squad.
OUT OF THE WATER WITH MIKE ... Mike chose EIU “because I felt like I could make a difference on a growing team and wanted to be part of building a legacy”… feels that basketball is actually his favorite sport, it’s just that he’s more talented in swimming… currently driving a 2004 Ford Explorer Sports-Trac… will pretty much eat anything, but definitely loves dining on pizza… favorite tv shows include Scrubs, The Office, True Blood, and Whale Wars… recently enjoyed taking the weather and climate class taught by Cameron Douglas Craig… his advice to a younger swimmers would be “to keep your head up and respect the upperclassmen”… his ultimate personal goal is to “make the Olympic trials.”
