2012-13 Women's Swimming Roster
Biography
2012-13 ... Finished a stellar senior season by setting or improving on her EIU Top 10 finishes an amazing six times at the Summit League meet... now owns the fastest times in three individual events... first in the 500-Free (5:04.25)... plus the 1000-Free (10:32.03) thanks to a nice split time during her 1650-Free event... and then again in the 1650-Free overall (17:23.18) to place fourth place... plus she swam the opening leg of the new school-record 800-Free Relay... additionally, she improved both her personal times in the 200-Free and 400-IM to now own the second-quickest times for both in the Panther record books... overall, she competed in ten different individual events over the course of the season.
2011-12 ... Saw action in seven individual events, setting season bests in the 100, 200 and 500-Free events at the Summit League meet... led her team with top times in the 200, 500 and 1000-Free races... also a member of both the 400-Free and 800-Free relay squads.
2010-11 ... Set the second fastest school mark in the 500-Free at the end-of-season Summit League meet… also saw action in four other freestyle events, as well as the 50, 100 and 200-Back swims… and 200-IM… recorded Top 3 fastest times by a Panther in seven events.
2009-10 ... As a freshman, has already made a name for herself as she has already notched her name into the EIU record books, as both her top 500 and 1000-Free times are listed in the Panther Top 10.
HIGH SCHOOL ... Four-year varsity letterwinner for coach Tom Leider at Milton HS in Janesville, Wis. ... named team MVP all four years where she qualified to the State meet every year, placing in the top six each year... four-time All-Conference honoree, which winning a Sectional Championship as the team captin her senior year... set a new school record in the 500-Free, while also helping her squad earn a Conference Championship each season... member of the J-Hawk Aquatic club squad... where she swam for the 2009 national team and earned Speedo Sectional honors as well... has been a state qualifier for the J-Hawk squad since she was eight years old... earned Honor Roll kudos all four years, including High Honor Roll honors her senior year.
PERSONAL ... Majoring in hospitality management... daughter of Tracey Foss… born on May 24... her No. 1 sports highlight was “when I made my national cut in the 1000-Free at State and when I won sectionals my senior year in the 500-Free”... credits her mom for having the biggest influence on her sports career “because she’s my best friend and always there for me through the good and the bad”... her mom was a former member of the WI-Green Bay swim squad, where she won nationals in three events in 1989-90 and was tabbed as the ‘No. 1 Wisconsin Swimmer of the Year’ and made the Olympic trial cut in the 100-Fly and 50-Free.
OUT OF THE WATER WITH HAILEY ... ‘Hailey Bug’ chose EIU “because I loved the atmosphere”… currently driving a 2004 Saturn Vue… enjoys watching movies, hanging out with friends and sleeping… enjoys eating apples and peanut butter and chips and salsa, but doesn’t care for tomatoes… would love to be able to switch places with President Obama, “because who wouldn’t want to live a day in his shoes?”… since coming to EIU she’s learned “how to be more independent”… can’t go anywhere without her cell phone… her sister is the one thing she wishes she could bring to EIU from her hometown… her advice for a younger swimmer is “never let your mind get the best of you”… one of her favorite idoms is “if you have a lane, you have a chance”… a goal she has while at EIU includes “to keep on improving as a person and as a swimmer.”
