Biography
2014-15 ... Ended his Panther career by playing in three events over the course of the season... tied for 42nd at the end-of-season OVC meet, which marked a season-best finish... finishes with a two-year 78.5 EIU average behind 1,726 strokes and 22 total rounds of golf.
2013-14 ... Saw action as a junior transfer as he played in six events and earned a 77.9 stroke average over the course of 13 rounds of golf, which was good enough to rank third best on the squad... tied for the third best individual round of play by a Panther as he fired a 72 in the first round of the Butler Fall Invitational... tallied a pair of Top 20 finishes, including a season-best 12th place mark in the season-opening Chicago State Fall Invite and then tied for 20th at the Butler Fall event... tied for 53rd at the end-of-season OVC meet.
PARKLAND COLLEGE ... Transferred to EIU after two seasons up at Parkland College in Champaign.
HIGH SCHOOL ... Multi-sports athlete in golf, baseball and basketball for coaches Deb Whipkey, Scott Albright and BobCoffman at Robinson HS... earned three letters in golf and a pair in baseball... voted golf and baseball team captain... qualified for state golf meet three years... finished first at the sectional meet as a junior and also third place as a sophomore... earned all-conference kudos twice... his golf squad secured the Apollo Conference title his junior year... while his squad qualified for IHSA state meet as a senior, placing ninth... his baseball unit also earned league championship team honors.
PERSONAL ... Majoring in kinesiology and sports studies with an exercise science concentration... son of Bill & Susie Welsh... born on February 11... No. 1 sports highlight was "pitching a two-hit shutout as a senior in the regional championship... also shot a 70 his junior year at the state sectional meet to win medalist honors"... credits his late grandfather, Ron Welsh, for having the biggest influence on his sports career, "because he coached football for 31 years and always believed and pushed me."
OFF THE LINKS WITH BRADY ... Chose EIU "because I enjoy the campus atmosphere and the team... plus Charleston is a small town where the school is the majority"... still enjoys playing basketball and baseball... his hidden talent is "being able to make a conversation with a wall"... currently driving a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor... also likes to lift weights, watch basketball games, eat, and gaming... loves to eat calamari but dislikes anchovies... he can't go anywhere without his headphones... favorite tv show was Entourage, fav movie is Tommy Boy and likes to see anything with actor Denzel Washington... his family own a two cats named 'Pudge' and 'Nala', as well as a Shitzu-Rat Terrior named 'Boo'... enjoyed taking classes with professors Debbie Faye & Colleen Kattenbraker... since coming to EIU he has learned "that family is everything"... the Rec Center is his favorite spot on campus... looks forward to seeing former EIU football great Jiimmy G play football on Sundays... wishes he could bring his grandmother to campus with him... his advice to a younger athlete would be "to practice, practice and then practice some more."
