Biography


2014-15 ... Earned a pair of EIU record book marks during her lone season as a Panther freshman, as she now sports the 5th and 7th fastest times following her respective 500 and 200-Free races at the Summit League meet... also saw action in the breast and IM events... also member of the 400-Free, 400-Medley and 800-Free relay units.

HIGH SCHOOL ... Multi-year letterwinner for swimming coach jordan Beck at Seven Lakes HS in Katy, Texas... member of the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association All-State team, earning honorable mention honors.

PERSONAL ... Planning to major in biology... daughter of David & Cristina Hepler... born on September 17... No. 1 sports highlight was "earning my 200-IM sectional cut during the summer of 2011"... credits her parents for having the biggest influence on her sports career, "because they've always supported me in everything I do."

OUT OF THE WATER WITH MELISSA ... Chose EIU "because I felt so at home, even though EIU is a thousand miles away... the team has a really fun atmosphere and they motivate and support each other, which is something I was looking for in a university"... also enjoys photography in her free time... loves to dine on barbecue and sushi, but dislikes brussel sprouts... would have loved to been able to meet hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe... family owns a Yorkie-Pomeranian mix dog... wishes she could trade places with Kate Middleton for a day, "because it's every girl's dream to be a princess"... wishes she could bring her hometown Texas Barbecue to Charleston... her advice to a younger swimmer would be "to make sure to have as much fun as possible... and don't be too hard on yourself"... her goals while at EIU include "figuring out what I want to use my degree in biology for."
