Biography

JAKE BYRNE’S COLLEGIATE CAREER

JUNIOR (2006-07): Appeared in all 30 games with 25 starts... scored in double figures in 10 games with a career-high 28 points at Jacksonville State in second to last game of the season... had a string of 21 straight makes from the free throw line, ended season shooting 75 percent from the line... hit 54 percent from the floor to lead EIU... season high eight rebounds against Austin Peay... averaged 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds with 12.8 point average over final nine games... ranked fifth in the OVC in field goal percentage.

SOPHOMORE (2005-06): Evolved into late season starter for Panthers making starts in final 13 games...started 15 games while appearing in 27 for the year...averaged 22.4 minutes per game...increased production as a starter averaging 10.1 points, 4.9 rebounds per game over last 13 starts while hitting 56 percent from the floor...season-high 22 points against Morehead State (Jan. 28)...pulled down a season-high 9 rebounds at Tennessee Tech (Jan. 19)...led team with 55.1 field goal percentage while ranking second on the team with an 80 percent clip from the free throw line.

FRESHMAN (2004-05): Saw limited action during freshman season appearing in only eight games...scored six points on the season all coming against Purdue during 11 minutes of action.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Elsberry High playing for coach Dan Mahurin...three-time All-State selection, Elsberry playing at Class 2A and 3A during his high school career...three-time All-District 6 selection and three-time first-team All-Conference selection...helped Elsberry reach state championship sectional round as a junior...lettered nine times with four letters each in basketball and soccer and one letter in track...Elsberry was second in the state during his sophomore season playing at Class 2A level, team lost to Lutheran Northern in championship game...National Honor Society...three-time class president...president of Student Council his senior year.

PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight was "playing for the state championship my sophomore year"...says his family influenced his athletic career "by encouraging me to be a competitor"...most admires his high school coach (Dan Mahurin) because "he has pushed me to be a player since I was in sixth grade, and made me what I am now"...son of Dennis Byrne and Curtis & Robyn Loesing...father Dennis was an All-American wrestler at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville...mother Robyn played basketball at Rockhurst College... graduated in May with a degree in finance... working towards MBA at Eastern Illinois.
