Located next to the scenic campus lake, Lakeside Rugby Field is one of two athletic fields that sit on the east and west side of this campus feature. The field serves as the home pitch for the EIU women's rugby team, one of only two NCAA Division I rugby program in the country. The grass field was converted to the rugby field a few years ago and recent additions include a black iron fence surrounding the field, a press box, modern sound system and ample specatator seating on bleachers or on the grass.
The field played host to the first women's NCAA sanctioned intercollegiate rugby game on September 15, 2007 when EIU hosted West Chester (Penn.) University.
