Biography

2009: Guttosch pitched in three games in relief, returning to the mound after missing all of 2008 with an elbow injury… also singled in his lone plate appearance… worked two innings of scoreless relief against Illinois College in late April in his first outing back from injury… pitched a 1-2-3 inning against Jacksonville State in the OVC Tournament… suffered the loss at Butler despite not giving up an earned run; a two-out error extended the inning after he retired the first two batters he faced… EIU All-Time Rankings: seventh in appearances.

2008: OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll... Guttosch redshirted due to an arm injury.

2007: OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll... pitched in 20 games, starting 10… ranked second on the team in game started and innings… would-be basestealers were 2-for-7 with him on the mound… posted both of his victories in OVC road games… ranked fifth with 11 appearances in OVC play… was not charged with a wild pitch in 57 1/3 innings pitched… averaged 11.3 groundouts per nine innings… did not give up an extra-base hit in 10 1/3 innings in post-spring break midweek action… started and closed the year strong, surrendering less than three earned runs in each of his first three starts and allowing only one earned run in his two appearances during the final week of the season… led EIU to the doubleheader sweep at Morehead State with five innings of one-run ball as a starter in the nightcap… also won game two of the SEMO series… allowed just one earned run over four innings in his first start of the year at nationally-ranked Evansville… held his own against NCAA Tournament qualifier Memphis, limiting the Tigers to three earned runs over six innings… pitched a season-high seven innings, allowing just two runs while striking out four, in the finale of the Belmont series.

2006: OVC Pitcher of the Week (May 8)… He pitched in a team-high 29 games and started one… the lone reliever to win OVC Pitcher of the Week honors in 2006, did so after pitching six innings of two-hit relief over two appearances in the Austin Peay sweep, earning the victory in both games… shared the team lead with five victories, all of which came in relief… was 4-0 with a 2.19 ERA in OVC play… led the league in appearances (15) in OVC play… after giving up three earned runs in his lone start of the season, at Indiana State in late March, did not allow another run in nine of his next 10 appearances… tossed four innings of scoreless relief against Morehead State in the regular-season finale to earn the save… also picked up saves against Jacksonville State, thanks to a pair of innings of scoreless relief, and Aurora University… pitched three innings of one-run relief to earn the win in the opener of the Southeast Missouri series… was 4-0 with a 1.30 ERA and .204 batting average against in 14 appearances at home… after posting a team-best 2.45 ERA in April, was even better in the month of May (2.30 ERA, .207 batting average against)… Top 10 OVC Rankings: second in appearances… EIU Single-Season Rankings: ninth in appearances.

2005: He pitched in 17 games and started four... earned his first save in game one of the Morehead State sweep... did not allow an earned run in starts against Chicago State and Saint Louis... pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief against Illinois State... did not issue a walk in seven straight appearances between April 23-May 14... went 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA in eight appearances at home... posted a 3.65 ERA in 12 1/3 OVC innings.

HIGH SCHOOL: He was a two-year letter-winner for coach Ray Del Fava... also lettered three times in hockey and once in football... earned All-Catholic League honors in 2003... team MVP as a sophomore... set school records for most saves, and fewest runs and earned runs allowed in 2003... 2004 regional champs... two-time first honor roll and six-time second Honor Roll student... in the summer of 2006 earned co-Playoff Pitcher MVP while leading the Twin City Stars of the CICL to the tourney championship... pitched for the Brainerd Blue Thunder of the Northwoods League in the summer of 2007.

PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight was playing in back-to-back state hockey championships at the United Center as an upperclassman at Loyola... Kerry Wood has been a major influence on his sports career because "he had arm problems similar to mine and made it back to be successful"... most admires future Hall of Famer Frank Thomas because "he was the best player on my favoite team growing up"... his father played hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology... son of Jim and Karen Guttosch... MAJOR: Master's in Business Administration.
