HIGH SCHOOL: Played for coach Daryl Crouch at Washington HS outside Peoria... helped team make playoff appearance in 2004 with a 4-3 record in the Mid-Illini Conference... three year varsity letter winner... had 102 tackles, 62 solo as a senior... first team All-Mid Illini Conference... named to Peoria Journal All-Star team... Washington beat state-ranked Richwoods his senior season... team captain.

PERSONAL: Majoring in biology... No. 1 sports highlight was "making a fourth down tackle that helped beat a rival school"... son of Mary Jo Carney-Nelson and Mike Nelson... a brother, Jamie Carney boxed professionally.
