Alex Salterio

Alex Salterio joined the Eastern Illinois athletic staff in September 2025 and will serve as the strength and conditioning coach for the Panthers men’s basketball team.   He will also assist with additional EIU sports during the school year.
 
He brings more than eight years or experience working in both collegiate and professional sports environments with his most recent experience as a strength and conditioning specialist with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League during the first half of 2025.
 
During the fall of 2024 he worked as the strength and conditioning coach and offensive line coach at Bayridge Secondary School in Kingston, Ontario Canada.   Prior to that Salterio worked for four years as the men’s basketball strength coach at the University of Winnipeg assisting with the women’s program during parts of that same time span.
 
Salterio was a two-sport athlete in college beginning his career as a baseball player at Lakehead University for the 2014-15 academic year and then played football at Mount Allison University during the 2016 season.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Winnipeg and is currently completing work on a master’s degree from Ohio University.
 
He is a NSCA-CSCS Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, has a USA Weightlifting Level I Coach certification and is CPR/AED Level C certified.   Salterio has added intern strength and conditioning experiences at both Georgia Tech and South Carolina and was an undergraduate strength and conditioning coach while at Mount Allison University.
