Biography

2009: MVC Scholar-Athlete Team Honorable Mention… Philpott played in all 17 games and started six times, including the first four contests and the season-finale… scored both of his goals in Valley play, giving EIU a halftime lead in the loss at Evansville and accounting for the game-winner against Bradley at home… assisted on Jerry Maddi’s goal against Drake… averaged 42 minutes per game as a starter… logged a season-high 56 minutes in the win at Central Arkansas and scoreless draw with Creighton… Eastern was 2-1 when he scored during his career.

2008:
Philpott played in 15 games and started 10 times, including the first five and final three matches of the year… assisted on Mike Lewis’ go-ahead goal in the victory against UMKC… went the distance on four occasions: at Valparaiso, at Western Michigan, at IUPUI and at Missouri State… played a season-high 96 minutes in the overtime loss at MSU… averaged 70 minutes per game in the contests he started… ranked ninth on the team in minutes played (908).
 
2007: Philpott played in 17 games and started 12 times, including the first six matches of the season… came off the bench in the home opener but then returned to the starting lineup until suffering a knee injury in the MVC opener against Drake that kept him out until early November… assisted on EIU’s first goal of the season, Chris Pearson’s score against Belmont, and Alex Harrison’s first goal in the overtime win at Asbury College… registered a season-high three shots against Western Illinois… averaged 45 minutes per game as a starter… played a season-high 61 minutes in the draw at UAB… logged 50-plus minutes eight times… played at least 20 minutes in both MVC Tournament contests.
 
2006: He played in all 20 games and started 18 times, including the last 16 matches of the year… scored EIU’s first goal in the Valley win over Evansville, tying the game… first EIU freshman to score his first career goal in a Valley game since 2002… tallied his first assist on Brad Peters’ third goal in the win at IPFW… attempted a shot in 14 of the 20 games.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: He was a four-year letter-winner for coaches Steve West and Dan Keller… IHSSCA All-State selection… Chicago Tribune Honorable Mention All-State… two-time All-Central State Conference… 2005 team captain and MVP… also lettered twice in wrestling, qualifying for the state meet while earning conference Wrestler of the Year… four-year honor roll student… played for the SASA (Springfield Select) club team.

PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight was scoring the game-winning goals against Alton High School in the IHSA regional semifinals… former coach Andy Bruington has been a major influence on his sports career because “he taught me to always keep my head up and to become a great person on and off the field”… most admires coach West “for being a great coach and friend.
