2011-12 Men's Swimming Roster
Biography
2011-12 ... Nabbed All-Summit League honors yet again, as he swam the opening leg of the new school-record 200-Medley Relay unit with a time of 1:32.27... also tied his runner-up school record time in the 100-Back at the same end-of-season meet... also saw action in the 50, 100 and 200-Free races, in addition to the 50 and 200-Back and 100-Fly... also a member of the 200-Free, 400-Free, 400-Medley, and 800-Free Relay squads, all of whom earned top season times.
2010-11 ... Earned All-Summit League kudos as a member of both the 800-Free and 400-Medley Relay squads that finished second at the end-of-season conference meet en route to setting new EIU school marks… once again topped his school-record time in the 200-Back event with a fifth place league finish… as well as a new personal time in the 100-Back which ranks as the second fastest time by a Panther in school history.
2009-10 ... Broke a seven-year-old Panther record with his prelim time in the 200-Back at the end-of-season Summit League meet… swimming in eight different individual events, he also improved his EIU Top 10 times in the 100-Back, 100-Fly and 200-IM.
2008-09 ... As a true freshman, swam the first leg in the 200-Medley Relay foursome that set a new school record time of 1:34.05 at the end-of-season Summit League meet... also finished the season with four personal bests in individual races at the league meet, including the 50-Back, 100-Back, 200-Back, and 200-IM... all four of those times placed him in the top three for a Panther on the season, including the top times in both the 50-Back and 200-IM... more importantly, three of his event times earned him spots in the Top 10 EIU record book, including his 100-Back, 200-Back and 200-IM races.
HIGH SCHOOL ... Not only a member of the swim team at Lemont HS, but also played soccer and tennis... soccer squad was a two-time regional and sectional winner... advancing to the state finals at one point.
PERSONAL ... Majoring in sports management with a business minor... son of Rich & Lauren Waszak… born on November 27... No. 1 sports highlight was “winning multiple catholic league soccer championships while in grade school”… credits his father for having the biggest influence on his sports career, “because he has always pushed me to do my best in anything that I have done.”
OUT OF THE WATER WITH RICH ... Chose EIU “because my visit to campus was great”… feels some of EIU’s advantages over other schools include “the size is nice and the people here are cool”… possess a hidden talent of being able to perform magic tricks… currently driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe… enjoys dining on steak and burgers on the grill… favorite tv show is Seinfeld… if he could bring anything from his hometown to EIU it would have to be his family’s two Yorkies, named Missy and Maverick… enjoyed taking a science class taught by Cameron Douglas Craig… he can’t go anywhere without his pants, “as it’s socially unacceptable not to”… his advice to a younger swimmer is “to learn to manage your time and everything else will fall into place”… his goals while at EIU include “trying to learn something new everyday while I’m here and take that with me after I graduate.”
