Biography


2012:  Played in 25 games in her final season in a Panther uniform... hit .257 for the year, which marks a career best... saw action as designated and pinch hitter, as well as at first base... finished her EIU career with 43 hits, a .186 bat average, .225 slug % off six doubles... OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2011:  Saw action in 28 games, starting in 13 contests... played mostly at the designated hitter position... hit .205 for the season, a new career single-season high... finished with nine total hits and seven RBI... enjoyed a two-game hitting streak at one point in the season... EIU Season Rankings:  T-8th for being hit-by-pitch.

2010: Starting in 30 of the 37 games she played in as a sophomore, Ashley recorded 17 total hits, including three doubles and her first career home run when EIU downed South Dakota State, 6-1, in late February... as the team’s primary designated hitter, she tallied 12 RBI, with a .258 slug percentage and registered 23 total bases... set or tied new game highs in 10 different statistical categories... went 4-for-6 at the plate when another Panther was waiting to come home from third base... also saw some action at third base.

2009: Played in 33 games as a freshman, starting in 22 of those contests... 15 times began the lineup as designated player and the other seven starts at third base... batted sixth thru eighth, coming to plate mostly in the sixth spot... went 8-for-63 to record a .127 average... two of her eight shots were double-baggers, first at IUPUI and then again at OVC foe EKU... collected six RBIs, three of which came about with two outs on the board... walked nine times and connected on three sacrifice hits... hit 2-for-4 with runners on third and finished with a .474 average in advancing runners... had a season-high four at-bats in a home game with Drake... in the same game versus the Bulldogs she also recorded a season-high three put-outs, all while working at third base... had a season-long, three-game hitting streak at one point in the year... the Panthers finished with an 11-4 record when Anderton was the starting designated player.

HS: Ashley was a four-year letter-winner for coach Craig Milburn… also lettered four times in weightlifting and track and field… named All-State by the Tampa Tribune in 2007… four-time all-conference selection… two-time team captain as an upperclassman… four-time all-conference weightlifter, finishing sixth in state during the 2005-06 school year… two-time all-conference performer in track and field as an underclassman… helped lead Zephyrhills to district titles in 2005, 2006 and 2008… also reached the regional finals in 2006… National Honor Society… four-year academic all-conference honoree… also played for the Tampa Wildcats and Suncoast Outlaws summer teams.

PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight for ‘Ash’ happened last spring, “when our squad was one of the six squads to make it to the end-of-season OVC tournament”... her parents have had a major influence on her sports career “because they pushed me when I was at my weakest point”… most admires her former coach Tony Barquin “because he brought me from an everyday player to a great player... he taught me the game and made me more mentally tough.”

OFF THE FIELD WITH ASHLEY:  Majoring in chemistry... daughter of Lee & Jan Anderton... chose EIU “because of the family environment... it’s fun to have a home away from home”... her favorite food dish is her my mom’s five-cheese ziti... but doesn't care for broccoli... her family owns a weiener dog named 'Chevy'... one of her most unique travel locales was going to the caves in Tennessee... also enjoys four-wheeling & horseback riding... recently enjoyed taking Dr. Craig Wheeler's chemistry class... would love to switch places with Crystl Bustos for a day, “because I would like to see what it would be like to be a top U.S. Olympic softball player”... also enjoys playing volleyball & flag football... currently driving a 1999 Grand Prix GT... her advice for a younger athlete is “to always keep the confidence you have from high school”... some of her goals while at EIU include "to graduate with good grades and to become the best player I can."
