Biography


2012:  Finished her Panther career with a solid season... she hit .206 on the year, which was a career best as a five-year player... saw plenty of action with 37 starts in the EIU outfield, either at center or right field... five of her 21 hits were of the extra-base hit variety, which included three doubles and a pair of triples... touched home plate 13 times... went 7-for-8 in stolen bases on the year to finish with a 19-22 all-time mark... OVC Top 10 Rankings:  OVC-only games -- T-2nd in triples (2)... OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll, including Medalist honors.

2011:  After taking a redshirt season, came back to play in 38 games, starting in nine... saw action mostly in the outfield... scored six runs off one hit... the hit was a big one, however as it was her first career triple as EIU defeated Morehead State in a series sweep... OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2010: After seeing limited action in just nine games, Hayley was forced take a medical redshirt season.

2009: As a freshman, she started in 40 of the 46 games, playing in the outfield all season long... could be found in the left field most of the time... batted in the ninth spot 33 times, where she finished the season with a 20-for-95 (.211) plate performance... six of her 20 total hits were of the extra-base variety, including three doubles and three homers... nailed one of only two grand slams on the season, with a blast at league rival EKU... recorded 13 RBIs and 32 total bases... eight of her RBIs occured with two outs on the board... went nearly perfect in base thefts, earning 12 stolen bases out of 13 attempts... tallied 67 long ball or line drive catches, while only committing one error... in the batters box, she went 4-of-6 at the plate with EIU runners on third base... earned three multi-hit games... two of her long balls occured with two outs... her third dinger, which came versus OVC foe Morehead State, helped the squad set a new the single-season homer mark... accounted for the winning run twice over the course of the season... including bringing home the winning run in the top of the eighth when EIU downed New Mexico State in the season-opening tournament... her three-run homer in the top of the second frame led EIU to the first 6-3 win at Evansville... also placed on base three times as a pinch-runner over the course of the season... OVC Top 5 Rankings: Tied for fourth in stolen bases in OVC games.

HS: Hayley was a four-year varsity letter-winner for coach Emily Werner… also lettered four times in basketball… All-State and All-Metro as a senior… two-time first team all-region and team captain as an upperclassman… four-time first team all-conference and team MVP… honorable mention All-Metro as a junior… first and second academic honors… president of the fitness club… also played for the St. Louis Fusion Gold summer team.

PERSONAL: Majoring in business management... with a minor in Spanish... daughter of Mark & Lisa Pieper... her new No. 1 sports highlight, which came about a freshman at EIU, “was hitting my first homerun as a Panther, which was a grand slam at EKU”... her parents have been a major influence on her sports career “because they always offered positive and encouraging words, and worked me in our backyard on fundamentals”… most admires the athletes in her family “for giving support and showing how hard work pays off”… has many family members who were former pro or collegiate athletes... including her grandfather, Ken Wild, who played for the St. Louis Cardinals... her uncle, Tom Wild, played baseball at the University of Missouri... her aunt Mary Jane Lovrey played basketball at North Carolina State... and her aunt Nancy Duchardt played basketball at McKendree College.

OFF THE FIELD WITH HAYLEY:  Chose EIU “because EIU has a great business program and it is close to home so that my family can visit and because of the players and coaching staff”... favorite food dishes include pork tenderloin & mac ‘n cheese... but not crazy about eating green beans or peanut butter... her favorite building on campus is the SRC... enjoys taking naps... likes tv's Gray's Anatomy and the movie Happy Gilmore... currently driving a 2003 Dodge Stratus... a professor whose class she's recently enjoyed taking is Gary Aylesworth’s philosophy class... also likes playing basketball & volleyball... her advice for a younger athlete is “softball is a great sport for any player regardless of shape and size... so push yourself to do your best and never give up”... her favorite quote (from Gail Devers) is “keep your dreams alive... understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication... remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
